COSTUMES!
It's that time of year! With Halloween just around the corner it's countdown to this year's costume choice for the annual Texas Hold'em Massacre.
A quick preview of costumes past:
1. Magic 8 Ball: 8 months prego with nothing that fits other than yoga pants and sports bras. Cheap black and white face paint for the belly 8 ball, a top hat and magic wand with a little bag of answers.
2. Afro-American: Native American Indian outfit with an Afro and braids.
3. Fallen Angel: hand-sewn bodice and skirt over a tutu with wings, crutches, arm and leg brace (hence 'fallen').
4. Edwina Scissor Hands: mostly store bought with the scissor gloves and dress, added the tutu/boots/ripped hose, and crazy wig. A tattoo scar across the face/lips made the makeup.
5. Zombie Happy Bunny: Bunny ears, zombie makeup, pajama footies with a bunny tail, smart-alec t-shirt.
And this year's contenders:
1. Goldie Locks: blonde curly hair, black dress w/gold locks all over it.
2. Diet Dr. Pepper: scrubs, stethoscope, chili peppers and slim fast bars attached to the scrubs. (done a previous year, but not for the Massacre).
3. Teepee'd: Wrap up in toilet paper, add warrior paint and a feather headdress for accessories.
4. Calendar Girl: any outfit will do with calendars pinned to it. Oh, and it helps if you're a girl or you could just pad a bra and add a wig ;-)
5. Altophobia (fear of heights): Play on words here, where a music symbol for alto and carry a stool so when asked what you are dressed as you can stand on the stool looking down scared...okay, it's geek humor, get with it.
6. Coulrophobia (fear of clowns): Dress up as an evil clown. This is funnier for everyone else that has to look at you and you realize how many people are terrified of clowns.
7. Boxed Wine: Boxing gloves, cardboard box decorated like a fine red or favorite white Zinfandel, black-eye makeup.
8. Boxed Wine II: Boxing gloves, purple balloons/some deflated attached to a shirt, black-eye makeup.
9. Little Red Riding Hood: Red hoodie and talk gangster. Seriously, so stupid it's funny.
10. Runaway Bride: (as seen before) Running shoes/shorts, bridal veil and white gloves. Add accessories like a water bottle and bouquet.
11. Energizer Bunny: Pink-all-over outfit with a bunny tail and ears, dark glasses, any big popcorn tin / drum strapped around the neck or shoulders, two big cardboard rolls on the back painted to look like batteries.
12. Mr. "Tea": Any type of tea bags and pin them together like a necklace, the signature mohawk, and a tea cup.
13. Vampire Cullen style: Vampire teeth, white face paint, add glitter spray for the sparkle effect in sunlight.
14. Miss America: Dress as Captain America but add a pageant crown and sash.
15. Here's Johnny!: Red shirt, crazy Jack Nicholson eyebrows and smile, poke the face through an axed cabinet door. Classic Shining.
That's all I've got this year. If you come up with any ideas please post them in the comments. Most important, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

October 30th Costume of the Day
Almost there! Can't believe tomorrow is Halloween. Seems like we just got over Christmas and was wondering what the new year would bring!
Today is a funny tribute to the S**t costumes (i.e. Holy S**t, No S**t, Bull S**t, etc.) Instead of being S**t we will use theterd...term, Poo, as in "Poo" Bear. Any of the S**t costumes will do and just add teddy bear ears and a jar of honey.

October 26th-29th Costumes of the Day!
Playing catch-up! It's been a crazy week and costumes have been the focus of just about everything leading up to this weekend :) Here's the final cut:
October 26th: Mr. "T"ea, Wear a mustache and put a capital T on a shirt, OR throw on the Mohawk/Fauxhawk and carry a cup o'tea.
October 27th: Devil with a Blue Dress (1995 classic), easy peasy! Wear a blue dress...funnier when a guy does it, and throw on some devil horns :)
October 28th: Boxed Wine, Pick your favorite wine label, attach it to a shirt, make a black spot around one eye (for a black eye) and wear boxing gloves.
October 29th: Happy Bunny, you can buy bunny ears pretty much anywhere as well as a t-shirt with a smartass saying on it.
The top two will be posted soon :)

October 8th and 9th Costumes of the Day
I'm late posting the costumes, blah blah blah. Been a yucky weekend here in the "Raining cats and dogs, flooding like a banshee, wind blowing harder than a hooker for rent money" state. This torrential downpour needs to stop. It's cramping my blogging.
Here's yesterdays costume of the day:
Dingos ate your baby!: Dog costume with a baby attached :)
And here's today's costume of the day:
Rainbow Bright: Your traditional childhood fave but with a twist. Add horn rimmed glasses and some Physics books :)

Halloween Countdown!
It's beginning to look a lot like the Nightmare Before Christmas! I love this time of year when the smell of pumpkin spice lattes wake me in the morning. Yeah, it doesn't take much more than a strong cup of coffee to get me excited, however, there is a certain thrill to this time of year. Halloween is the kickoff holiday for end of the year festivities.
What makes it more exciting than the candy, the decorations, the trick-or-treating and parties?! Why, the COSTUMES of course! I'm a sucker for an original costume idea and for three years in a row in some form of social media I have posted a list. This year I am going to do things a little differently. Instead of posting the 20+ costume ideas I am going to add a new idea each day to count down to Halloween. Since today is already October 2nd here are the first two:
Just sayin...

- English Muffin: Wear a size too small jeans so you have a muffin top, get a plain t-shirt and use a paint pen to color a British flag on it, and talk with a British accent.
- Afro-American: A classic (and once worn by moi), wear an Indian outfit with an afro.
Just sayin...

Annual Costume Ideas: 2010
Every year I try to put together a list of costumes that stand a chance at being unique for Halloween costume contests. This year is proving to be tough to top my ideas from last year. In case you missed them here is a recap:
- Roasted Marshmallow: Big white t-shirt, stuff it with pillows or foam fabric, spray paint brown/black flame marks on it, wear brown tights; you can also use a wooden dowel or real stick to put in the back.
- Jail Bait: jail house stripes (dress/shirt & pants) and fish hooks/etc. on a fishing hat.
- Calendar Girl: Get a calendar and pin the different months all over a shirt and pants.
- English muffin: Wear a size too small jeans so you have a muffin top, get a plain t-shirt and use a paint pen to color a British flag on it, and talk with a British accent. (seriously considering this one!)
- Hula Chic: wear a grass skirt and lei with a hula hoop around you
- Diet Dr. Pepper: scrubs, face mask, slim fast (any diet bar) pinned to scrubs, chili peppers (necklace/or pinned to scrubs), optional stethoscope (did this one in 2006)
- Arch Angel: angel costume with golden arches (McDonald’s anything)
- Blackberry: wear all black, use any type of plastic berries (paint them black) and hang on costume or as necklace, use pipe cleaners to make antenna for head.
- Redheaded Step-child: red wig, plastic step stool to carry/hang, and a pacifier.
- Ying Yang (couples idea): one wears black sheet with white dot painted on it, the other a white sheet with a black dot. (Did this for Bobbie and Erin one year!)
- Faux Pas: Any sweatshirt/t-shirt will do, just add fake fur in the shape of a paw (get it, paw/pas…)
- Teepee’d: Wrap yourself in toilet paper, add face paint like a Native American and a feather headband for comical accessories.
- “Yoga”: dress in yoga gear with a Yoda mask (this was funnier when I first thought of it).
- Bed of Roses: pin fake roses to a bed sheet, carry a small pillow or pin it to the sheet also and wrap it around you (also thinking about this one).
- Goldie Locks: wear all black, get the little gold locks and hang all over the outfit; a blond wig may help with hinting at what you are dressed as.
- Book Worm: use two or three sheets of poster board to fold in half (like a book--be really creative and write on it or paste magazine pages), wear a solid color as to not distract from the 'book', wear big fake reading glasses.
- Invisible Woman: (very easy) buy a sheet of cammie netting; when people ask what you are dressed as, wrap it around you so they can't see you.
New ideas will come as I compile the 2010 list. In the mean time add your comments for suggestions or catch some others on my facebook page! Happy Costume Hunting!

Sissi's Costume Ideas: first 20
As promised, here is a list of twenty costume ideas I have yet to find on any costume site. I have three or four faves that I need to choose from for the Texas Hold'em Massacre. Take a gander at them and vote on what you like:
- Party Animal: any dog/cat/bear/etc. mask, a toga, a beer mug.
- Hula Chic: wear a grass skirt and lei with a hula hoop around you
- Beewitched: (duh) bee costume with a witch hat.
- Physical: (ode to Olivia Newton John) leotard with leg warmers, belted waist, and 80’s hair with head band.
- Diet Dr. Pepper: scrubs, face mask, slim fast (any diet bar) pinned to scrubs, chili peppers (necklace/or pinned to scrubs), optional stethoscope (did this one in 2006)
- Afro-American: Afro wig with Indian costume (did this one in 2008)
- Archangel: angel costume with golden arches (McDonald’s anything)
- Fallen/Broken Angel: angel wings, bandages/crutches/brace/etc.
- Blackberry: wear all black, use any type of plastic berries (paint them black) and hang on costume or as necklace, use pipe cleaners to make antenna for head.
- Redheaded Step-child: (for Rayna) red wig, plastic step stool to carry/hang, and a pacifier.
- Voodoo Doll: wrap up in a sheet/toilet paper/ace bandages, and then stick Styrofoam balls with pipe cleaners to look like large pins; Use face paint for effect. You can draw a heart on the chest and label other body parts to stick.
- Fat Tuesday: Instead of Wednesday Adams…wear a Goth outfit with the dark makeup, a black Mardi Gras mask, and stuff it for padding unless your like me and can pull it off as pleasantly plump :-)
Last year's winner was the hostess with an awesome Smurfette costume (blue from head to toe!), and in 2007 I was conveniently eight months pregnant, taking the title for a last chance to pull this costume off: Magic 8 Ball
Top hat and accessories $7, Paint for belly, $2, eight months pregnant to pull it off...lifetime of trying to out do this blasted costume!
